Detroit Excursion FC program provides an unparalleled experience for female players of all abilities and skill levels to participate in competitive soccer in Detroit. In partnership with the Chandler Park Conservancy 501© (3) nonprofit, Detroit Excursion FC will practice and play home games at Chandler Park in Detroit.  The soccer program introduces one of the fastest-growing sports in the World to African American girls. This program will educate girls and parents about the travel soccer game and expose them to healthy afterschool lifestyles, bullying, crime prevention, tutoring, academic enrichment, financial literacy, leadership, wellness, and team building. We will also successfully recruit and train girls to become soccer coaches and referees as career opportunities.   A vital aspect of the Detroit Excursion FC is for youth athletes to acquire a positive attitude regarding academics and achievement. Girls begin to develop abstract and critical thinking skills during early adolescence. These skills allow one to connect across disciplines and understand how actions and attitudes in one area of life are not isolated from other spheres. For example, through Detroit Excursion FC soccer games and discussions, students will learn that discipline on the field and in the classroom is not mutually exclusive but rather the same attitude applied to different scenarios. Understanding such connections will help youth maintain positive academic achievement and behavior attitudes.
